At Tongariro River Rafting   we are committed to minimising as much risk as possible to ensure that you are as safe as possible. To do this we comply with guidelines set in place by multiple governing bodies, including Maritime New Zealand and the New Zealand Rivers Association.

New Zealand Rivers AssociationThe New Zealand Rivers Association is a group made up of guides and operators within New Zealand. It was set up in 1996 to help promote the sport of whitewater rafting to New Zealand and the rest of the world. Alongside this, the association has played a large role in developing a standardized qualification for rafting that can be used in New Zealand. At Tongariro River Rafting   we are members of the New Zealand Rivers Association and support the association in being our voice for the industry.

Skills Active Aotearoa

Skills Active Aotearoa is a training organisation who focus on up-skilling people in the sport, recreation and outdoor recreation areas in New Zealand. They have worked closely with the New Zealand Rivers Association to build a qualification for raft guides that is respected worldwide. At Tongariro River Rafting   we have worked closely with the groups developing these qualifications and all our guides hold a skills active rafting qualification.

Worksafe is the governing body for whitewater rafting in New Zealand. They have brought in Health and Safety at Work (Adventure Activities) Regulations 2016 which Tongariro River Rafting   complies with. Under this rule, all companies that operate in this field must have a safety operations plan that is reviewed by Worksafe. Tongariro River Rafting   holds a valid Worksafe Certificate.

Department of Conservation Te Papa AtawbaiAt Tongariro River Rafting   we hold a concession that has been approved by the Department of Conservation. This is a government agency in charge of preserving what we have in New Zealand. Holding this concession shows that we are committed to following the environmental care code in all aspects of our business.

Qual Mark is a company that will assess a tourism business against a set of criteria and at the end of it the business is awarded either a bronze, silver or gold award. At  Tongariro River Rafting   we are very proud to say that we hold our Qual Mark Gold award which shows that we have drive to continually improve our economic, social and environmental performance all while being genuine and authentic.

Adventure Mark CertifiedAdventure Mark is the largest adventure activity certification body in New Zealand. We passed our adventure mark audit in 2018, which means all our safe operating plans and procedures were looked over with a fine tooth comb and we passed with flying colours. So we are do everything we can to ensure that we run a safe operation to look after our staff and you.
