Raft and Mountain Bike!

Want an adventure packed experience? Come rafting and mountain biking with us!

We can take you on a variety of different mountain biking trails depending on time constraints, ability and challenge wanted! Depending on the trail, we can split this between multiple days or do it all in one!

Read below for the different mountain biking options:

Tongariro River Track:

The Tongariro River track is a great trail for beginners or children. It follows this world famous trout river past rolling farmland, beach forests and fern glades with spectacular views at almost every bend.

Rating: Beginners. Distance: 10 x km return. Time: Allow 1 to 2 hours. Guided tours available

Fischers Track:

Starting in National Park village, this ride is one of our personal favourites. A short easy climb leads you to panoramic views of the upper Retaruke valley. From here you descend down though native bush and farmland to the shuttle vehicle. With a 17km downhill this is definitely one of the best mountain bike rides in New Zealand.

Rating: Intermediate – Advanced. Distance: 23 km. Time: Allow 2 to 3 hours riding time. Guided tours available

The 42 Traverse:

The 42 is regarded as one of the best, one day mountain bike rides in New Zealand. It involves brilliant biking on old logging tracks through remote native bush and has an overall descent of 570 metres. Not a ride for the fainthearted so let us take care of the logistics for you, getting you there and back and we also provide safety back up.

Rating: Intermediate – Advanced. Distance: 45 km. Time: Allow 4 to 8 hours. Guided tours available

Our most popular combo – Tongariro Duo / Tree Trunk Gorge:

On this combo, you ride through the beautiful Tongariro Forest right to our rafting starting point!

Tree Trunk Gorge is a short but beautiful track that weaves its way through native forest, with a short steep climb, a picturesque river ford and some wooden bridges en route. The track is only 10kms but along the way you can also check out the awesome site of the Pillars of Hercules before biking down to the Poutu Intake on the Tongariro River where you will have lunch before enjoying a rafting experience.

Rating: Beginner – Intermediate. Distance: 10 km Time: Allow 1 1/2 to 2 hours riding time, 2 hours rafting time.

Rafting:

You will then raft down the Tongariro River on our Grade 3 Whitewater Rafting section! This section has more than 60 rapids and beautiful scenery and wildlife along the way.
It is suitable for anyone ages 11 and up!
*For younger groups, we can also offer the combo with our Grade 2 Family Float.
