How We will keep you safe under COVID-19 restrictions

If you are unwell, please do not visit us. If you have a booking we are happy to reschedule it or process a refund for you.

At Levels 4 and 3, we are unable to offer adventures of any description.

Safety has always been a top priority for Tongariro River Rafting, and we have broadened our definition of safety and continuously review our processes to ensure we are keeping everyone safe.

Under level 2, we will be able to resume operating trips. We will be operating trips as normal with added safety measures.

Under level 1, we are able to operate as normal, maintaining our high levels of cleanliness.

See below for our plan to operate under the demands of Level 2. We will constantly review and evaluate this plan and adapt as necessary.

COVID-19 Precautions Once Operating:

We will still be offering our Grade 2 Family Float rafting trip, Grade 3 Whitewater rafting tripfishing and mountain biking trips.

Booking/before the trip:

We require everyone who comes rafting with us to sign a digital waiver form and provide contact details. This form will be used for contact tracing as well.

We will send you an email with a link to the form for you to complete before you arrive. You can do it at our base on the provided iPads which we will sanitize after every use.

We request that everybody brings a face covering with them, we recommend Buffs because they are most suitable for the activity that we are doing. We have some available for purchase if you do not have your own but if you do not have a suitable face covering we can’t take you rafting.

At the base:

Whilst within our building we require everybody to wear a mask or other face covering that meets the requirements and maintain physical distancing where possible between our staff and other bubbles/groups.

We also ask everybody to use the provided hand sanitiser before touching anything in the building.

We will check in each bubble seperately to enable physical distancing and so that we can sanitise the ipads and surfaces between each bubble.

Rafting gear:

All the gear we provide is washed thoroughly after every use in water and disinfectant, then fully dried before we give it to you.

We provide fleece(s), a wetsuit, a splash jacket, wetsuit socks, wetsuit booties, gloves, a beanie, a lifejacket and a helmet.

Each bubble will be given their equipment seperately and get changed in their own changing rooms which we will sanitise between bubbles.

We do require all rafters to wear the gear we provide because that is the only way we can ensure everyone will be warm enough on the river.

This is also an important safety point for us. As a result, we do make sure everything is thoroughly cleaned.

Driving to the river:

We ask that everybody wears a mask in the vehicles on the way to the river, we put seat covers over the seats in our vans which we disinfect after every use. We also make sure to disinfect the seatbelts, door handles, wipe down the windows and ensure to abide by physical distancing practices in the vehicles.

This means that we will maintain necessary distance between those in different bubbles.

During your trip:

We will operate with a maximum of 6 people per raft, we ask that everybody wears a face covering while on the river.

After rafting:

After your rafting trip all the rafting equipment that you have worn is disinfected and dried before it is used again.

At level 2 we are unable to provide our usual “Grandmas Secret Recipe Soup” and bread after the trip, hopefully that can resume at level 1.

Cancellation policy:

We understand that this is a turbulent time for all and that plans are changing quickly and without notice. As such, if you need to cancel your trip due to anything Covid-19 related, we will offer a full refund or reschedule your trip for a more convenient time, whichever you prefer.

The bottom line:

Our priority is the safety of anybody interacting with Tongariro River Rafting.

As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, we are ready to evolve with it and change our practices accordingly. But we want you to know that we are taking this situation very seriously and adjusting as necessary.

The only thing we care about more than getting out on the river at Tongariro River Rafting is making sure we are doing so safely for all involved.

Don’t forget the things that have NOT changed!

It’s just as important to remember the things that have NOT changed, nor will ever change.  Like our super friendly guides who can’t wait to get out on the water with guests once again.

And the river itself, which is as pristine as ever, and is the perfect way for people to reconnect with nature, in a way that is fun and interactive.
